The Best Things to Do on Cape Cod

Whether you’re longing for relaxed summer days lounging at the beach or are looking for an exciting adventure, you’ll love the variety of things to do on Cape Cod. Sun and sand are really just the beginning of things to do here. Hop on a bike and head out for a ride along the seashore, get out and explore the many charming small towns that dot the Cape, head out on the water for a sail or afternoon whale-watching adventure, play a game or two of tennis or pickleball at local courts, and otherwise unwind in a way you can’t do surrounded by the busy demands of home.

There’s never been a better time to plan your summer trips to our Harwich Bed and Breakfast. To help you plan, we’ve compiled a list of some of our favorite things to do on Cape Cod.

  1. Explore the breathtaking beauty of the Cape Cod National Seashore. Here, you’ll find some of the most popular beaches on the Cape, including Nauset Beach in Eastham, Marconi Beach in Wellfleet, and Race Point and Herring Cove beaches in Provincetown.
  2. One of the most popular things to do on Cape Cod is go whale watching. Though whales can be spotted year-round, peak whale-watching season is from mid-April to October.
  3. There are even more ways to enjoy the water on the Cape! One of our favorite places for kayaking or paddleboarding is Nickerson State Park, but other great spots include Nauset Marsh, which is teeming with sea life, and Bass River.
  4. Explore downtown Harwich, one of our favorite small towns on the Cape.
  5. Whether in downtown Harwich or elsewhere on the Cape, don’t miss the chance to indulge in some of the best and freshest seafood around. We’d love to give you personal recommendations while you stay with us!
  6. Head out for a bike ride on the Cape Cod Rail Trail. It’s a 22-mile bikeway that meanders through Dennis, Harwich, Brewster, Orleans, Eastham, and Wellfleet.
  7. Explore Monomoy National Wildlife Refuge, home to one of the most protected habitats on Cape Cod. This 7,600-acre preserve features protected dunes, salt and freshwater marshes, and an old lighthouse to admire. It also offers an essential habitat for nesting and migratory seabirds and harbor grey seals that live just off the coast.
  8. Speaking of lighthouses, don’t miss some or all of the 14 impressive Cape Cod lighthouses up and down the Cape.
  9. If you want a break from the sun for a day, there are fantastic museums to explore on the Cape. Consider the Sandwich Glass Museum, the John F. Kennedy Hyannis Museum, the Cape Cod Museum of Art, or the Whydah Pirate Museum.
  10. Finally, go hiking. It’s one of our favorite things to do on Cape Cod and offers one of the best opportunities to truly appreciate the landscapes and historic preservation efforts that have preserved so much of this coastal paradise. Here’s a list of some of the best Cape Cod hiking trails, including some right here in beautiful Harwich
