It’s winter. It’s cold. The days are shorter. We have to bundle up and wear layers and boots. I long for warm days on the shore. Those mysterious winter aches and pains pop up again, and I wonder why that is. I may have found one reason.
Feeling the sun on your face and feet in the sand isn’t just a sensory delight, it is healing. I recently delved into what is called “Earthing” or “Grounding.” This may be part of why children are filled with delight running barefoot through the grass, we seem to feel better when we relax by the ocean or are on our hands and knees digging in our gardens.
Our human history began with us living directly on the earth and in tune with nature’s cycles. Early on we slept on the ground, walked barefoot or with foot coverings made of animal skins. We were always in contact with, connected to, the earth and to the earth’s electromagnetic frequency. Why is this important? Because we are electric beings. The development of modern footwear has insulated us from the earth, as well as our homes, cars, beds… so many materials now exist and are part of our daily lives that keep us separated from the healing energies of the earth.
When we are physically connected, skin to earth, we are what is called “earthing” or “grounding”. The skin contact allows us to be aligned with the electromagnetic vibration of the earth with many benefits such as eliminating free radicals, reducing inflammation (the most significant cause of pain and disease), thins viscous blood, better sleep, accelerated wound healing, and contributes to a de-stressing and balancing effect of the autonomic nervous system. I could actually go on and on about the benefits, but if you are interested, do a quick search on the internet, YouTube or other podcasts to discover the scientific and anecdotal studies about the benefits of walking barefoot and reacquainting yourself with mother earth.
Why is an innkeeper talking with you about this? Because at The Platinum Pebble, our tagline is “Relax & Recharge.” On some level I must have known that when our guests stay with us, and walk barefoot through our meditative labyrinth, or sit by the pool or spend time walking the beach, that they are reconnecting with the wellness that is inside of them waiting to be reclaimed. So we invite you come to Cape Cod and enjoy the beauty of nature, and bring home a better you when you depart. We look forward to seeing you soon!
