What to do on Cape cod in the spring

Updated:

Spring is a special time on Cape Cod, and there really is so much to do for those who enjoy being outdoors. Here are a few of our favorite things to do in April, May and June on Cape Cod!

Less than a mile walk from The Platinum Pebble Boutique Inn in West Harwich, is Bell’s Neck Conservation Land. It is a popular destination for bird watchers, nature lovers and photographers alike. During April & May the swans prepare for their babies and you will see them hunting for materials to build their nest. Other birds in the area are the ospreys, egrets, hawks and blue-grey gnatcatcher. The herring return to Cape Cod between April and June when you can see them jumping the herring run ladder along the West Reservoir where they come to spawn each year. Don’t want to go it alone? The Harwich Conservation Trust offers guided nature, birding and wildlife and mindfulness walks pretty much year round.

get into the great outdoors

There isn’t a shortage of activities to do out of doors on Cape Cod, that’s what we are all about! Get the most of the spring with some great activities. Hiking or biking the 25 miles of the Cape Cod Rail Trail takes you through seven towns on Cape Cod. Along the way there are plenty of places to stop and shop, eat, explore and swim (well, maybe not swim in the spring) along the way.

Looking to stretch your photography muscle? The whales and guided whale watch tours pick up again in the spring and our favorite is Dolphin Fleet Whale Watch out of Provincetown. With a naturalist on board the ship, you will learn much about these behemoth water mammals as you are wowed by the sheer power and beauty they display.

Looking for a unique experience? Art’s Dune Tours in Provincetown begin their guided tours offering you access to parts of Cape Cod very few get to see. Being driven up the steep dunes, passing by the primitive artist shacks and then hitting the beach (perhaps for a sunset view or dinner on the beach with a campfire) is a memory you will cherish forever.

shop til you drop

Grab your bestie and hit the stores! Yes, I know this is a piece on being outdoors…but you do, after all, have to step outside of each store, right? After the holidays until the season begins you can find some amazing deals at the myriad of shops, galleries and boutiques on Cape Cod. Harwich Port and Chatham have some of the best back-to-back shopping experiences, and you can easily fill the trunk of your car for half of what items may cost during the summer. Do a quick loop around each store and then spend some time in each area to discover that hidden treasure you don’t want to live without! Some favorites in Harwich Port include Buoys on Main, Solis, and Whimsy. In Chatham a few unique favorites are Monomoy Salvage, Beach Bum Surf Co, and Chatham Pottery.
