When you think of Cape Cod Vacation Ideas, you should always think of Nantucket … a piece of Heaven in the Northeast. It’s an easy day trip, especially if you leave from Harwich on the Freedom Ferry. The Freedom Ferry in Harwich Port is a seven-minute drive from the Platinum Pebble Boutique Inn and offers free parking for day-trippers. It’s so close and easy to get to; why not take a trip to Nantucket and explore off the beaten path?
Photo Opportunities
Introduction to Nantucket
As you pull into Nantucket Harbor by ferry, you pass Brant Point Lighthouse—a photo opportunity for sure. The ferry passes close enough that it would be difficult to take a bad shot. It is quite the introduction to Nantucket, too. The harbor opens up just past the lighthouse and… Welcome to Nantucket! This is what it felt like roughly a hundred years ago. This is classic New England.
As you disembark the ferry, you enter Nantucket’s downtown area. A great idea would be to rent a bike or scooter; the island is just big enough that walking is not the best option. With wheels, you can see so much more and get to explore some of the best beaches in the country. If bikes are not your style, consider renting a Jeep. Some of the beaches of Nantucket are off-road friendly, and the Great Point Lighthouse is an incredible expedition.
Getting Around
Rent a Bike or Scooter
Stop at Nantucket Bike Shop and rent a scooter for the day. They have three locations and are very helpful with instructions and a quick tutorial. Having the scooter means you can easily visit Surfside Beach on the South side of the island. It is a vast expanse of sandy beach that gets the full brunt of the surf pushing up from the South. If you are looking for waves, this is the place to be. Another beach is Cisco Beach, which is also the location of Nantucket’s Cisco Brewery. Worth a stop if you want to see how the island’s best beer is made.
Getting Around
Walking Around Town
The town of Nantucket is also an excellent spot for walking and enjoying the scenery. The cobblestones are noteworthy, and the genuineness of the town makes you feel like you have gone back in time. You will find excellent bakeries as you tour and enjoy the authentic feel of New England.
Another not-to-miss experience is a visit to the Whaling Museum. The museum has done a phenomenal job portraying the significant role whaling plays in this region’s history, and it is a museum worth visiting.

I love staying here!
This B&B is the best I’ve ever been to and I’ve been to several! The owners are so hospitable and think of everything you could possibly need. The rooms are super clean, comfortable, and a nice decor and the bed and linens are top-notch. They have a very nice pool area and a beautiful backyard to relax in. And to top it off, they have delicious breakfasts and are very accommodating to special diets! Just finished my fourth year in a row visiting and I am a lifer for sure!
Thank you, Shawn & Sharon for making this the best place to stay!
