We all look forward to vacations. However, the way you dream of experiencing your vacation may differ very much from someone else, even with the same destination in mind.
For example, I went on a two week trip to Egypt with a large group of friends. We were all eager to experience the history of the area, see the sights, try the food…essentially pack as much into our trip as possible. Most of us had one (or two!) suitcases and a carry on. However, there were two seasoned travelers who only had a small back pack for the two weeks. I couldn’t help but wonder how they could travel for so long with so little. We all had pretty much the same experiences, however, a few of us had less hassle through the trip (i.e. no luggage). And that was only one of the differences! We are trying this out on our next getaway…will let you know how that goes!
As you begin to plan your next trip, think about what you expect to get out of your experience, what will already be there for you, and what you will have to bring yourself…it might help you have the best time ever. With that said, what’s your travel style?
Plan Your Cape Cod Getaways
SUN SEEKER
The Sun Seeker is usually all about warm sunny days and being outside to experience their destination of choice. It might involve time by the pool, ocean or stream soaking up the rays, or simply being outdoors for the majority of their stay. Checking the historical highs/lows and rainfall of your destination ahead of time will help you determine the best time for your visit.
THE FOODIE
The majority of us want great food when traveling, it pretty much goes without saying. But are you in search of gastronomic delights, looking to try local specialties, farm to table, the perfect location/setting of the place, where the locals go, or do you seek the hidden gem restaurants not really publicized? Doing some research before you go is great, but consider trying some of the 4 star restaurants as opposed to the 5 star that you may have a harder time getting into or find has a longer wait. Those 4 Star restaurants are still darn good and you may not have a wait or pay as much! Don’t forget to ask the innkeeper/concierge about their recommendations based on your preferences; they know the area and can save your time and disappointment. And don’t be afraid to try something new!
CULTURE BUFF
The Culture Buff chooses a destination not only for the history of a place, but to learn the how and why. You may be hitting the museums or looking for guided tours to learn the most about an area. The Cape has museums end-to-end and there are some locals who can curate a custom tour based upon your personal interests.
ADVENTURER
The adventurer is typically not spending idle moments by the pool reading the latest novel…they are out there doing it! Sport fishing, kayaking, whale watching, Dune tours, bicycling the Cape Cod Rail Trail, ziplining at The Adventure Park at Heritage Museum & Gardens, hiking through conservation land and sailing are a few of the options calling to you on Cape Cod.
NATURE LOVER
Woods, dunes, kettle ponds, estuaries and the ocean all call to you on Cape Cod. Immerse yourself in nature and absorb all the free health benefits! The Harwich Conservation Trust offers a variety of guided walks, meditation walks and informative nature walks throughout the year.
The Best Cape Cod Bed and Breakfast
So you may be wondering our travel style? We pretty much fall into every one of the above, but for us delicious food, a beautiful environment, a unique experience and the warm sun on our face are always a must!
