Enjoy the Best of Cape Cod in October

Updated:

October is honestly one of our favorite months here on Cape Cod. The air has that crisp edge that makes your morning coffee taste even better, the summer crowds have packed up, and suddenly the beaches feel like your own private escape. The sunsets hang around a little longer, the leaves get brighter, and the whole Cape takes on a slower, cozier vibe. If you ask us, October might just be the best-kept secret around here.

Even though the pace is more relaxed, you won’t run out of things to do on Cape Cod. Mornings are perfect for a quiet walk on the beach or a bike ride along the Cape Cod Rail Trail, and afternoons are made for cider, pumpkins, or wandering through a fall festival. Seafood is still fresh off the boat, and Cape Cod towns have plenty of events and live music to keep the evenings lively.

And of course, where you stay really matters. The Platinum Pebble Boutique Inn isn’t just a place to stay. Our Cape Cod Bed and Breakfast is designed for people who want a little extra out of their getaway. Stylish rooms, thoughtful touches, and genuine hospitality (we like to think we’re pretty fun, too) make it the kind of spot you’ll look forward to coming back to. A glass of wine, a comfy chair, and a chance to plan the next day’s adventures? That’s what October on the Cape is all about. Book your getaway today!

Why Cape Cod in October Should Be on Your Radar

If your only Cape experience is in the summer, Cape Cod in October might surprise you in the best way. The air is cool but comfortable, the beaches are wide open, and you can explore without the summer rush. Shops and restaurants are still buzzing, festivals are in full swing, and fall adds its own energy to the coast.
Visiting this time of year gives you the best mix: quiet downtime when you want it, and plenty of activities when you’re ready to explore. Honestly, we live here year-round, and October is when we really fall in love with the Cape all over again. Below are a few of our go-to favorites this time of year. And yes, we still sneak in a cranberry bog tour when we can!

Things to Do on Cape Cod in October

  1. Walk the beaches. Always top of the list of things to do in Cape Cod, but in October, it feels like you’ve got the shoreline all to yourself. No cliche here; the cooler weather is perfect for long, scenic walks by the ocean.
  2. Bike the Cape Cod Rail Trail. We keep complimentary bikes here at the Inn, so you can hop right on the trail. It literally runs past our front door. Crisp air + colorful foliage = the best fall ride.
  3. Visit farms and pumpkin patches. Apples, cider, pumpkins, and the chance to see a cranberry bog in action. It doesn’t get more “fall in New England” than that.
  4. Explore the Cape Cod National Seashore. The trails are quieter this time of year, but just as beautiful. Birdwatchers, bring your binoculars.
  5. Check out fall festivals. Oktoberfests, art walks, harvest fairs: Every town seems to have something fun going on. Favorites fall events include Outermost Roots & Blues Festival, Yarmouth Seaside Festival, Sandwich Glass Museum’s PumpkinFest, and of course, Wellfleet OysterFest.
  6. Go whale watching. Yep, October is still a great month for whale watching on Cape Cod!. There’s nothing like spotting a breech on a cool fall day.
  7. Hunt for art and antiques. Wellfleet, Orleans, and a few other towns have fantastic little galleries and shops. Perfect for unique finds you won’t see anywhere else. We’d love to share some favorites.
  8. Visit our favorite towns. Chatham and Provincetown are still lively in October, with great food, shopping, and plenty of character.
  9. Catch a sunset. Fall skies here are unreal, especially as the fiery colors reflect off the water. It’s a simple, but unforgettable part of Cape Cod in October.
